CC Sabathia: For the Love of Money

Congratulations to CC Sabathia for choosing money over happiness. Who can blame him during this economic recession. I mean come on, he's only going to be making up to $160 million over 7 years. Is that too much to ask for CC, he has a family to feed.

That's more than most of us will make in our lifetime. It seems happiness does have a price tag and with enough zeros you can own a piece of happiness too.

Sabathia attended Vallejo High School, in Vallejo, CA where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football. So when the L.A. Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and the Anaheim Angels entered into the bidding war, it seems that CC would come back home to sunny Cal.

Although there were varying signals from the Dodgers, Giants and Angels, it was clear in the end that no other team would come close to what the Yankees offered, massive amounts of bling. Dollar bills and lots of them would lure CC to the Big Apple and the Yankees will pay Sabathia the largest contract ever for a pitcher.

Not bad for a player coming out of the draft as the top high school prospect in Northern California according to Baseball America. Sabathia was drafted in the first round (20th overall) by the Indians in the 1998 MLB Draft. He signed for a $1.3 million bonus. Sabathia played the first seven plus seasons of his career with the Cleveland Indians where he won the 2007 AL Cy Young Award.

Will CC find much needed success in New York playing for the legendary franchise?
